Another rejection

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

During the week I got another rejection, again from the Stinging Fly - this time for my submission for a proposed erotic issue of same.
I don’t know why my poems were not accepted - was it because they were:

  1. Not erotic enough?
  2. Too erotic, i.e. bordering on the pornographic (which some would undoubtedly consider them to be)?
  3. Not subtle enough?
  4. Too outspoken?

The only thing I know for sure is that the Editor didn’t like them enough to accept them. So, I’ll have to wait for the publication of this erotic issue before I can make a stab at answering why.

New poem

Friday, July 4th, 2008

I’m glad to report the arrival of another new poem. The happy event took place this night three weeks ago after a particularly virulent alcohol-fueled rant by me at some politicians on the 9 o’clock news and subsequent liberal doses of reflection on my anger. Having jotted it shakily down in one of my pocket notebooks I stumbled to bed and promptly forgot about it. A few days later I took a peek, decided it might be worth something and wrote it out again in a steadier hand, after which I consigned it to a drawer for another 10 days or so. Having had another look at it last night and made a couple of minor vocabulary changes, I’m convinced of its worth. It’s called “Nice” and is ready to be unleashed upon the world at the first opportunity.

Time is of the essence

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Just in case you’re wondering why I haven’t posted since 11 June last, I’ve been too busy to. Work work work - which at the moment is a blessing. I should have a bit more time after the middle of next week (no pun intended).
